About Us

Residential Care Rights (RCR) is an Advocacy Service for people receiving a Commonwealth funded aged care service in Victoria

What can an advocacy service do?

  • Provide you with information, support and advice, regarding rights and responsibilities.
  • Encourage and support action by individual people, groups, (or their representatives) including making approaches to management with issues or problems.
  • Assist with complaints.
  • Assist with the development of or support residents committees.
  • Provide information and education to staff and management.
  • Consult on policies to enhance consumer rights.
  • Promote community awareness of the rights of older people.
What are your rights?

You have the same rights as other members of the community. Additional rights in aged care include:
  • the right to information e.g. about the range and availability of services;
  • the right to privacy and dignity e.g. to be spoken to and treated in a courteous manner;
  • the right to freedom of choice e.g. making your own decisions;
  • the right to good health care e.g. the right to choose your own doctor;
  • the right to have your say and have any complaint resolved quickly and fairly;
  • the right to access and control over your own money.

Who is the service for?

For any person in Victoria who...

Image lives in a nursing home or hostel;
Image is being assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team;
Image has applied for or receives:

a Community Aged Care Package
an Extended Aged Care In The Home
Image may have to move into a nursing home or hostel if Home and Community Care Services cannot support them in their own home

Information and Education

We can provide:

  • free information sessions on aged care services for residents and relatives committees;
  • fee-for-service seminars for management and staff on:
    • user rights and accreditation;
    • culturally appropriate care;
    • duty of care.
    In-house and external sessions available.

  • Our service is free and confidential, with a focus on a positive outcome for the resident, including participation and choice in care planning.
  • RCR aims to provide a quality service. We welcome any comments or complaints about our service. If you are unhappy with the service we provide, please let us know and we will do everything we can to address your concern.
